Our Work (Highlights)
In April of 2023, we organized our first hiking excursion. A group of 13 individuals, 1 baby and 3 furry friends hiked through William B. Umstead Park located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Knowing that this could be something very special, we decided to do it again the following month. Our numbers increased quickly to 40+ participants and volunteers per event for various activities, including kayaking, camping, swimming, and more. The continued interest and support from the participants that have made Active Adventure what is today is the driving force behind our continued work to provide MONTHLY excursions to those that have found a love for the outdoors and to continue to introduce newcomers to all thing's nature.

State Park
Our first ever "Adventure Club" group hike. 13 adults, 1 baby, & 3 dogs showed up for the 5 mile hike that day setting the stage for future events!
June 2023
Fort Fisher State Park
Beach trip! The group got to experience the historic site, hike the basin trail, and hang out on the beach, and swim in the ocean. This was a "first ever" beach experience for some participants in early stages of recovery.
August 2023
Saxapahaw Lake
We accomplished our first successful fundraising goal of $1000 to provide kayaks and food for this group. The use of tandem kayaks encouraged teamwork and participants conquered fears by jumping from high cliffs into the lake.
October 2023
Hanging Rock State Park
Active Adventure's first large group mountain hike included some first time participants with under a month of sobriety conquering a 5 mile hike with 800ft elevation gain. This was no easy feat and there was much excitement and pride of the endurance gain for returning members.

State Park
We teamed up with another local non-profit organization "Recess Games" for an Easter scavenger hunt! Participants split up into 2 teams and set out to find landmarks using clues and maps on a 5-mile trail. Prizes were awarded to the winning team as well as consolation prizes for others. There was also an egg hunt with prizes and pizza for all!

Pilot Mountain State Park
Peace, Love, & Trees! 4/20 Hike - High on Nature
While many use to get smoked out on this day, this year we set out on an amazing adventure up the mountain! Participants challenged themselves and crushed this 3 mile hike with 760ft elevation gain. The reward of breathtaking views and accomplishment outweighs being stoned on the couch by far!

Eno River State Park
One of our favorite hikes. Everyone loves the 2 swimming holes along this scenic trail. We hit this spot last May as well, to kick off the warmer month's adventures. The river crossing requires participants to work together to cross safely and is a bonding experience.

Jordan Lake
From setting up your tent to building a campfire and roasting marshmallows, every moment is an adventure. Swimming, kayaking, fishing, & hiking in the great outdoors creates memories that will last a lifetime while disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Our first overnight camping trip!
